Street Beat: Quiksilver WomenIt can be argued that fashion is similar to automobiles: both evolve over time and originality is welcome. In 2008, Quiksilver debuted an innovative line - Quiksilver Women. Think a sophisticated and more fashion-driven line with tomboy-chic aesthetic. Quiksilver Women is more for the street chick with kick than the beach bunny.
After viewing the Fall 2010 line, I knew it was a winner. Anna Sherwood, Marketing Manager for Quiksilver Women, was happy to provide some insight on it. Enjoy!

BNQT - FALL 2010 SEEMS VERY CITY-CENTRIC FOR QUIKSILVER WOMEN. WHAT KIND OF THEMES AND COLORWAYS PLAY INTO THE LINE?
Anna - Following the spirit of adventure beyond the beach, the Quiksilver Fall 2010 collection celebrates the renegade soul of a modern vagabond. Tomboy button-ups, tuxedo tails, military-inspired outerwear, and slick denim leggings are effortlessly combined with softly draped knits, cocooning sweaters, luxe silks, girly vintage bra tops, and slouchy knit bottoms. Versatile constructions, tough hardware, and architectural shapes are layered with raw edges, asymmetry and beautiful imperfections. Bold stripes and boyfriend plaids add undeniable coolness, while rich colors pop against the urban noise of black, white and gray.

BNQT - WHO IS QUIKSILVER WOMEN'S TARGET CONSUMER?
Anna - She is an independent, creative woman making her way in the world. From student to professional, experimentation to discovery, it's about expressing her own unique values. She is effortless, yet sexy, always inspired by culture and music. The beach is in her blood, and she has rock-n-roll in her heart.

BNQT - MANY PIECES FROM THE FALL LINE FEATURE ANGLED CENTER BACK SEAMS. WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS?
Anna - Center back seams and details have been a signature of the Quiksilver Women's line since it debuted in Fall 2008. The skewed center back seams in the Fall 2010 line are one of the key product details in the collection ("undone"). The three main product detail categories are:
Transform: removable parts (zip-off hoods/sleeves/lengths), fit adjusters (snaps, buttons-and-loops)
Undone: raw edges, uneven & layered hems, external seam allowances, skewed center back seams, fabric mixing
Structural: black contrast, metal touches (studs, zippers, safety pins), & menswear touches (tux tails, masculine fabric & pattern), draped, cocooned, cropped

BNQT - THE HIGH TIDE PANTS AND SIROCCO SHORTS REALLY STAND OUT. MOST OF THE DENIM LINE SEEMS TO BE FOR NIGHTLIFE, YET THE WASHES ON THESE TWO JEANS ARE LIGHTER. ARE THESE MORE SUITED FOR DAYS AT THE BEACH?
Anna - In addition to these denim styles transitioning easily from the city to the beach, they were our designers' answer to an update on "boyfriend jeans" - a fresh new silhouette for the Fall.

BNQT - SPEAKING OF DENIM, WHICH WASH FROM FALL 2010 ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT? WHY?
Anna - "Sheath Leggings" in Oiled Black. The slick denim and ankle zipper details give this style a rock-n-roll feel, while still being extremely comfortable. This denim can easily be taken from day, paired with Converse, to night with platform booties.
BNQT - NEARLY ALL OF THE TOPS ARE LOOSE OR RELAXED FIT. IS THIS DONE TO MAKE IT EASIER TO LAYER, OR IS THERE A DIFFERENT REASON?
Anna - The Quiksilver Women's collection is meant to be worn in a way that highlights the easy, casual sexiness of a confident woman, while offering both versatility and pretty-tough style. We wanted to create versatile pieces that could be worn in a variety of ways - alone, layered, opened as outerwear, etc.

BNQT - THE ATOMIC CARDIGAN AND AFTERMATH DRESS FEATURE DESTRUCTIVE DETAILS. WE'VE SEEN A LOT OF DESTROYED DENIM, WHAT MADE YOU VENTURE INTO DESTROYED KNIT TOPS?
Anna - We embraced the DIY trend of ripping and cutting up your old favorite lived-in, loved-in tee shirt and created some very special tees for Fall with unique, hand-done details. The "Free Wheeling" tee and "The Gig" tee are two of our favorite examples of this style.
