Before his mom, his friends and seemingly all of Hawaii, Mick Fanning won the 2009 ASP World Title. The moment happened at the Billabong Pipe Masters in Hawaii, where Fanning shared the lineup with two childhood mates: Joel Parkinson and Dean Morrison.

The horn that signaled the start of Fanning's fourth round clash against Morrison also signaled the end of Parko's run in the world title campaign. With Parko's crumbling loss against wildcard Gavin Gillette, Mick became Micktorious in his quest for the '09 ASP World Title.

"I'm at a loss for words," said Fanning. "It's been such a crazy year and I had so much fun. I'm just shaking and lost for words."

If by crazy he meant incredible, then Fanning would be right. His 2009 ASP campaign included wins at the Hurley Pro Trestles, the Quiksilver Pro France and the Rip Curl Pro Portugal. He just won the 2009 ASP World Title and thanks to Vans, pocked another $50,000 for his efforts.

"I knew I was surfing well," Fanning said. "I knew it was going to turn around sooner or later. I don't know, it's weird the way the world works."

Mick, "White Lightning" captured his second ASP World Title at the Billabong Pipe Masters in Hawaii. The 2009 ASP World Tour season will go down in history as one of the most dramatic ever, with Parkinson winning three of the first five events before Fanning rallied in the latter half of the season to overtake his good friend. Guess you could say lightning struck twice?
